Course Closure Dates:

New Members & Green Fee Golfers are welcome.

The golf club is situated in a picturesque, natural setting along the banks of the Campaspe River in the township of Axedale, some 15km east of Bendigo.

The course is definitely Bendigo’s hidden treasure. It’s not long, but you must be straight off the tee or you will pay the price on your score card. The course features several signature holes, including two majestic par fives along the river and the unusual 15th with its sunken green.

A computerised pumping and reticulation system draws river water to irrigate the bent grass greens and lush fairways. This ensures year-round excellence in playing conditions. ‘Kingston Heath would be proud of these greens’ – professional golfer after our inaugural Pro-Am 2019.

A round at Axedale is a must for all golfers, whether your focus is a golfing challenge or beautiful surrounds. We’re confident you’ll return.

History

Golf in Axedale was recorded in the 1890s. It was first played on the site of the current course, with nine sandscrape holes in 1937 when eight founding members formed the Axedale Golf Club.

The fledgling club also contended with the river frequently flooding the course. Despite these setbacks the Axedale Golf Club competed each winter weekend from 1937 until 1956.

The club was reformed in 1973 and converted to 18 holes with grass greens in 1996. Today the Axedale Golf Club boasts a membership of more than 450 players and is one of the best courses in the Bendigo District.

What a gem of a golf course, not long but challenging. Excellent grass greens that are slick and will test even the best with the flat stick. Several interesting holes and par 3’s of varying length make this course worth the effort to play on. Friendly members and nice clubhouse facilities make for an enjoyable experience.
